Couplesplit accessibility
Accessibility
We want both people in a household to be able to use Couplesplit. This page describes the accessibility support in the iPhone app (version 1.8), based on our review of the common tasks: getting started, adding an expense, checking the balance and settling up, reports, fixed payments and trips.
Supported on iPhone
- VoiceOver. Buttons and controls have spoken names, and the common tasks can be completed with VoiceOver.
- Voice Control. Every control has a visible name or a name you can say, including the add expense button.
- Larger Text. Text follows your text size setting, up to the largest accessibility sizes.
- Dark Interface. Every screen supports Dark Mode.
- Differentiate Without Color. States are shown with a symbol or text as well as color, for example in status labels, limits and charts.
- Sufficient Contrast. Main text meets contrast guidelines. With Increase Contrast turned on, colors and labels become darker, which also covers some secondary text shown over gradients.
- Reduce Motion. Zoom transitions, chart and number animations, the opening animation, the monthly recap and onboarding have a calmer alternative when Reduce Motion is on.
Assistive Access
On iPhone with iOS 26 or later, Couplesplit has its own simplified screen inside Assistive Access with three tasks: log an expense, see who owes whom, and see this month. Each screen has one step, large text and buttons and the system back button, and nothing can be deleted there.
Charts
Charts support Audio Graphs, so VoiceOver users can hear the shape of the data and explore its values.
Automatic expenses video guide
The video that shows how to set up automatic expenses in Shortcuts starts muted and has the same steps written out as an alternative. With VoiceOver on, the written steps are shown open.
Known limitations
- VoiceOver reads amounts as numbers.
- At the largest text sizes, some navigation bar titles are sized by the system.
- This review covers the iPhone app. We have not yet completed the same review for the Android app.
Report an accessibility problem
