Privacy Policy

Couplesplit ("we", "our", "the app") is a household expense management app for couples. We take your privacy seriously and only collect what is strictly necessary to provide the service.

Data We Collect

• Name and email address – collected during sign-up via Apple Sign In or Google Sign In. Used solely to create and authenticate your account.
• Financial data – expenses, amounts, categories, income and balances you enter manually. Used exclusively to provide the app's features (balance tracking, reports, AI insights).
• User ID – an internal identifier used to sync data between partners within the same household.

Data We Do NOT Collect

• Payment card or bank account details (handled entirely by Apple).
• Location data (stored locally on your device only, never transmitted to our servers).
• Advertising identifiers or cross-site advertising profiles.

How We Use Your Data

All data is used solely to deliver the app's functionality: tracking shared expenses, calculating balances, generating AI spending insights, and syncing with your partner. We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell it to third parties.

AI Insights

Aggregated and anonymized spending summaries (totals by category, no names or transaction details) are sent to OpenAI to generate your monthly insights. No personally identifiable information is included in these requests.

Push Notifications

If you enable notifications, your device token is stored securely to deliver real-time alerts when your partner adds an expense. This token is never shared with third parties.

Website Analytics and Your Choice

On couplesplit.app, Google Analytics 4 runs with Advanced Consent Mode. Before you make a choice, or if you choose cookieless measurement, Google receives limited cookieless signals about basic page and feature usage. Analytics cookies are not created or read in that mode. With your permission, first-party analytics cookies provide more detailed session measurement.

Measurements may include the page URL, language, device and browser information, App Store button clicks, feature interactions, calculator use, and the result of an Android waitlist submission. We never send the submitted email address, financial data, or an app user ID to Google Analytics. Advertising storage, ad personalization, and Google Signals remain disabled in every mode. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through Analytics settings in the website footer.

Data Storage

Your data is stored securely using Firebase (Google Cloud) infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit.

Data Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account within the app.

Third-Party Services

• Firebase (Google) – authentication and cloud data storage.
• Google Analytics 4 – cookieless basic measurement and consent-based detailed website analytics.
• OpenAI – AI-generated spending insights (anonymized aggregates only).
• Apple – Sign In with Apple, Push Notifications, In-App Purchases.
