How to track Apple Pay purchases automatically.

Step by step

  1. In Couplesplit, open Automatic expenses and choose Apple Pay.
  2. Tap Get Shortcut and add it to Shortcuts.
  3. Choose which cards should trigger it, or any card.
  4. Add the automation, then in Shortcuts, Automation, set it to run immediately.
  5. Pay with Apple Pay: the purchase appears in Mine a moment later.

What gets recorded

The amount and the merchant that Wallet provides, plus a category Couplesplit suggests. If you allowed location access, the place is attached too. Everything lands in Mine, which only you see, until you move it to Ours.

If a purchase does not appear

  • Check that the automation is on and set to run immediately.
  • Open Couplesplit once: purchases waiting to be read are retried when the app opens.
  • Make sure the card you used is one of the cards you selected.

Add bank notifications for everything else

Apple Pay only covers taps with your phone or watch. For card purchases online or with a physical card, add the bank notifications automation (iOS 27).

Questions

Can Apple Pay purchases be tracked automatically without an app connecting to my bank?

Yes. A Shortcuts automation reads the Wallet transaction on your iPhone and passes it to Couplesplit. No bank connection is involved.

Which iOS version do I need?

iOS 18 or later for Apple Pay. Bank notification capture needs iOS 27.

Will my partner see my Apple Pay purchases?

Only the ones you share. Captured purchases land in Mine first.
